Some people find photography; for me, it’s a passion that keeps finding me.My journey didn't start with high-end glass or professional tutorials. It started in 1988 on a holiday in the former Yugoslavia with a cheap Hanimex point-and-shoot and a roll of Kodak Gold 100. Those first few frames sparked a fascination that has survived four decades, thousands of miles, and a few "hibernations."From Yugoslavia to the Front Row
That early spark led to a Miranda SLR and a realisation: photography is as much about understanding the science of light as it is about seeing the subject. Once I mastered the dance of aperture, ISO, and exposure, the world opened up. I found myself capturing everything from local landscapes to specialised commercial work.Life, as it often does, intervened. A career and a family took centre stage, and the cameras were packed away for a time. It wasn't until 2009 that a tiny 4mp Canon SureShot digi-cam reignited the fire. That "bug" led me back through the lens and eventually into the press pits of major concerts. For a time, my world was the high-octane energy of rock and pop, photographing icons like Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, and Midge Ure.
Beyond the Screen: Published Work & Cover Art
Over the years, my photographic work has featured across book publications, CD covers, calendars and DVD artwork for artists and companies including Node, Ian Boddy, and Synthesizers.com. Whether shooting under studio lights or capturing moody, atmospheric visuals in a landscape, the goal has always remained the same: creating iconic imagery that tells a story.
The Scottish Reawakening
During a honeymoon on the Isle of Skye in 2023, the landscapes did what the concert stages couldn't - they offered a sense of wonderment that demanded to be captured. Standing on Skye with a tiny Canon M100, I realised that my path was no longer in the city of Norwich, but in the Highlands and Glens.
Fellowes Photography: A Man of 2 Worlds
Today, I call East Ayrshire home. My work is a reflection of a life lived in two worlds. It’s the precision of a professionally qualified embalmer meeting the creative fluidity of a landscape artist. It’s the high-tech reach of a DJI drone soaring over a ruined seminary, meeting the tactile, mechanical soul of a 1970s Ricoh rangefinder.
Through Fellowes Photography, I aim to create more than just images. Whether it’s a digital landscape, a silent cinematic film, or a physical postcard, I want to offer you a connection. I want to capture that specific Scottish alchemy:
